What if, for an afternoon, we switched off our phones and simply met to read?

Literary Rave, an initiative by the Sindicato de Espectadores (Spectators’ Union), proposes a collective experience of individual reading. For three hours, several people gather in the same place, but each person reads their own book, at their own pace and wherever they choose. In the garden, under a tree or the pergola, in the covered area, on a chair, on a blanket or lying in a hammock: each participant can find their own spot and create their own reading experience.

This is not a book club, and there is no shared book. Everyone brings whatever they wish to read. There will, however, be space to look up from the pages, talk, exchange thoughts and share discoveries with those around you. A table with dictionaries will also be available to accompany the reading and help unravel unfamiliar words.

At the entrance, mobile phones are kept in a locker. For a few hours, we suspend notifications and distractions in order to reclaim the slow time of reading and the pleasure of being together, even when each of us is immersed in our own book.

Literary Rave is the first public initiative of a project developed by the Sindicato de Espectadores, connected to the programme that the Union will present in December. As well as creating this gathering around books, the initiative marks the beginning of the creation of a mobile, community library.

We are therefore inviting each participant to bring two books: one to read during the afternoon and another to donate to this future library. The books collected will become part of a collection built with the participation of the community, designed to circulate, create encounters and bring new people closer to reading.
