Calle calvario is a contemporary circus solo that brings together hand balancing, movement, voice and visual imagery to explore the complex bond between mother and daughter. A relationship shaped by love, guilt, anger, tenderness and, at times, violence. The piece grows out of the difficulty of acknowledging and naming what hurts when we know that our mothers have been hurt too. Through the body, it explores what is passed down to us, the ways of being women, mothers and daughters that we absorb before we are able to choose them, and what we might choose to break. How do we repair what has travelled through generations? Can we step away from the bodies that gave us life and still find our way back to each other?
